Russia's Severstal says eyeing coking coal assets in Southeast Asia

Russian steelmaker and miner Severstal is seeking potential acquisitions and potential joint developments of coking coal mines in Southeast Asia, a company official said Wednesday.

Severstal named projects in Indonesia and Vietnam as those it may look to invest in, said Semyon Vavilov, vice president of Asian business development, at the 10th Annual Coal Markets conference in Singapore.

Severstal, which has coking coal assets in Russia and the US, sold 7.6 million mt of coking coal concentrate in 2011, a 5% increase from the previous year.
