A: You can search for and find information on Platts products in several ways.
If you know a particular product name, you can type it into the Keyword field.
The results will display content from and about that product in the center content
area immediately below the Search Results header. Likewise, a link to information
on that product will appear in the “Related Products & Services”
box located immediately to the right of the Search Results header.
A: You can include a geographic region in your keyword criteria, e.g. “oil
prices in Europe.” Alternatively, you can filter search results by a geographic
location by selecting a regional link in the “Filter Results by”
box on the left side of the Search Results page.
A: You can include the company name in quotation marks in your keyword criteria,
e.g. "BP" (remember that by using quotations marks around a string of words, your
search will look for the exact string of words occurring together). Alternatively,
you can filter your search results by information pertaining to a particular
company by selecting one of the Companies links in the “Filter Results
by” box on the left side of the Search Results page.
A: To limit your search results to a date range that you've specified go to
Advanced Search by selecting the Advanced/Saved Search link in the Basic Search
box found throughout the site. Select the date range options provided in in
the “Date” drop down list. You may also use the calendar to enter
specific from and to dates for search when you select the “specify dates”
option. 1. Use the pull-down menu for pre-set criteria (yesterday, last week, etc. ). 2. Specify an exact date or date range by selecting "Specify dates" then completing the "From" and "To" fields in the format MM/DD/YYYY or by using the calendar function.
A: To limit your search results to only free or registered content, go to
Advanced Search by selecting the Advanced/Saved Search link in the Basic Search
box found throughout the site. Then check the box to the left of the “Registered
Content” option in the Search within section. Please note that some content
may still require free registration.
A: Use * to search for multiple characters associated with a partial or closely
related term. For instance, searching for the keyword test* will yield results
for the all the following keywords: "test", "tests", or
"tester".
A: By clicking “more like this”, your search results will be filtered
to find more of this type of content (e.g. news story, price data, etc.) based
on existing search parameters.
A: The link [+] more indicates that additional choices are available. For instance,
this option may appear in the Filter Results by box found in the Search Results
page. Clicking it will expand the number of options in the Filter category and
the [+] more link will change into [-]less link. Clicking [-]less will collapse
the options initially available.
A: The Related Events box in the right-hand side of the Search Results page
shows industry events conducted by Platts that may be relevant to your search
criteria.
A: Search Results are presented by relevance. Relevancy is assessed based
on a complex algorithm that considers the keywords and Platts content in several
ways including but not limited to statistical relevance (e.g. how many times
the keyword appears in the content); keyword(s) proximity (for multiple keywords,
their relative position within the content); authority, or how many times this
document is referred in other documents; document freshness and frequency of
document download/display.
A: Platts content contains various tags such as industry, region, and market
that are automatically applied during the editorial production process. Like
many publishers, we are identifying efficient ways to tag historical content
and are always monitoring new content management and distribution technologies
to ensure future content can be used in new ways.
A: Regrettably, this error indicates the server is unable to deliver the page
you requested. Please do let us know if you receive this error by dropping an

A: Click the “Advanced/Saved Search” link. Enter your keyword(s)
and any other search criteria (i.e. industry, date, content type). In the “Save
this Search” section at the bottom of the page, name this particular search
by entering a unique description in the “Name this search” field.
Hit the “Go” button to execute your search.
A: To access your Saved Searches, you must first be logged in. Your saved
searches are listed in the drop-down menu entitled "Saved Searches,"
located by clicking the Advanced/Saved Search link in the basic search box or
from the Advanced Search page.
A: Yes, you can edit your saved searches. Select one of your saved searches
from the drop-down menu entitled "saved searches," located under Save
this Search. Your search terms will load. You can change any of the search terms.
Then click "Go" at the bottom of the page. Your new search will be
performed and your search will be saved with your new search terms. If you do
not want to edit a saved search, delete the search name from the Save this Search
box.
A: Select the Saved search you wish to edit from drop-down menu on the Advanced
Search page.
The resulting screen will display your existing search criteria. Once you have
completed your changes, click the “Go” button at the bottom of the
page. Your new search will be performed and your search will be saved with your
parameters. If you do not want to edit a saved search, delete the search name
from the Save this Search box. Please note that hitting the “Reset” button instead of the “Go”
button will clear all search criteria on the current page.
A: Registered Content on platts.com is available at no cost to anyone. However,
to view these pages you must register by visiting www.platts.com/Registration.
A: To access the free, Registered content available on the site, you are required
to complete a short registration form and creates a user name and password.
Once you submit the registration form, you will immediately be able to log-in
and access Registered content.
A: Select the Log In option located within the dark blue bar in the uppermost
right corner of the site. You will then be prompted to enter your user name
and password.
A: Premium content is available to Platts paid subscribers. If you are already a
subscriber you will be able to access premium content from the publications
you subscribe to. If you want to become a subscriber or want to subscribe to
a new publication, please contact us.
A: From the Platts.com home page, click the “Search Tips” link
in the search box. In Advanced Search, the “Search Tips” link is
immediately below the Keyword input field and Go button. Additionally, you can
click the “What am I looking at?” links for a detailed legend of
Advanced Search functions and Search Results features.
A: Search Tips provide detailed instruction to help you input the most effective
search criteria possible to yield your intended results. Examples include Boolean
operators, wildcard searches, keyword suppression, etc.
A: Utilizing Advanced Search allows you to perform more precise searches by
expanding or limiting your search criteria based on industry, date or date range,
and the access level associated with the content (i.e. whether the content is
available only to paid subscribers).
A: Some of the Platts.com content is stored under more than one category (e.g.
industry or geographic region). The indexer curently considers these two separate
documents.
